For a couple of hours after leaving Barbate it was calm, sunny and wind-less. Then the wind slowly picked up, and I was able to round Tarifa under sail and then goose-wing through the Straits of Gibraltar with 15kts of wind and warm sunshine!
I first stepped onto a sailing yacht in November 2007 on a Competent Crew course in Gibraltar, and so it was good to be back where it all started. It also marked the end of “Part 1” of the adventure, which was to sail from Hull to Gibraltar. Although I hadn’t planned to sail the whole way single-handed, I realised at some point along the way that this extra challenge was possible. Although it’s been tiring at times I’ve enjoyed it all the way.
I stayed in Gibraltar for three days, and sailed around Europa Point into the Mediterranean….
